FRET12 SESSIONS

GIANT PIT OF GLASS
–
Live Performance

Some bands don’t walk into a scene—they seep into it. Giant Pit of Glass is one of those Chicago bands that sound like the city looks after midnight: hazy, slow, and softly electric. Led by Anthony Simmons (Tony to most), the band builds a world somewhere between soft rock and grungy slowcore, stitched with the emotional pull of early-2000s emo.

Broadcasting from our shop at The Salt Shed, FRET12 Sessions invites musicians of all genres and styles to come in, perform, and share their work with the world.

F12-SESSION 017 // GIANT PIT OF GLASS

Giant Pit of Glass’s self-titled debut EP, released in late 2024, was recorded and mixed by Ceej Burton at Shiny Tone Recording. With steady drums, trembling guitars, and lyrics that live between memory and motion, it drifts from the washed-out shimmer of “Snake Skin” to the weight of “Gainesville,” wrapping quiet intensity in glassy tones and open space. Live, they trade polish for presence. Anchored by a deep, pulsing bass and shimmering guitar. It’s Chicago’s slowcore lineage rewritten for right now: emotional without collapse, heavy without noise, intimate without retreat. With a new release and a growing place in the city’s underground circuit, Giant Pit of Glass feels less like a name and more like a state of mind—a reflection of how light and pressure can coexist until something cracks, or something beautiful starts to form.

“We formed in the summer of 2024 as a sort of rebrand of my previous project “Perfect Shirt”. While Perfect shirt started in Houston (where I’m originally from) GPOG came about as a way to establish something new and specific to Chicago.”

“GPOG really just started out as a way for me to get some stuff off my chest and play some shows here and there. As time has gone on, it’s turned into much more of a collaborative project whose main goal is to just have an excuse to hang out with my friends and play rock music.”
