Six Foot Blonde brings together big vocals, infectious melodies, and a distinctly Midwestern sense of fun. They first came together at Indiana University, where they gigged relentlessly, growing swiftly from a cover band to writers of uniquely energetic and soulful indie-rock. They quickly found themselves touring nationally and released their debut album, Ask Me How I Am, in 2024.

Frontwoman Julia Rusyniak's commanding voice provides the emotional center, wrapped up in punchy guitar, sax, synths, and dynamic vocal interplay that invites listeners to move, and gives them the versatility to soundtrack everything from a solo late-night drive to a packed house party.
They’ve just released their second album, Hummingbird, and we were lucky to have them perform four songs from it at our shop. It’s the kind of record that could only come with years of touring and writing under their belt. The album brims with confidence and cohesion, representing a true leap forward for the band, the direct result of six people collaborating to create something that represents their friendship and creative spirits.
In a city known for making room for artists with something to say—and something to prove—Six Foot Blonde feels right at home: ambitious, unpretentious, and ready for whatever comes next.

I started using it for guitar because I like this really cool, dusty kind of distorted reverb... there are a lot of songs in Ganser where I use distorted vocals. It’s just a sound I’ve always wanted for vocals and it’s much more fun to perform as well.”

FRET12 SESSIONS – Neptune's Core
Neptune’s Core swung by the FRET12 shop to preview their excellent new record Pivot. Like many of Chicago’s new crop of indie rock bands, they find inspiration in the fertile 90’s scene, but they add distinctly sophisticated songwriting that is emotionally direct and musically ambitious.
