With a sound evocative of a cold Old Style sweating on the wooden counter of some corner dive on a quiet street in a Northwest Side neighborhood, Sparkle Carcass mean it when they call themselves "Chicago Dive Bar Country." Driven by their creative engine, lead singer/guitarist, and songwriter extraordinaire, Cody Palmer, with an assist from Reilly Downes's lingering backup vocals and Jeff Lyman on the Pedal Steel, their no-frills, steel guitar meets Southeast Side steel mills sound is unique, gritty, and serving up a tall glass of John Prine with a shot of Jon Pardi. As stormy, husky, and brawling as the city that birthed them, it’s no surprise that Sparkle Carcass have become favorites at such hallowed local venues as FitzGerald’s in Berwyn and Carol’s in Uptown, as well as farther afield in Austin, TX and beyond.
